Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)

The Sports Legacy Institute has taken on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and related neurodegenerative disorders as its initial focus in the effort to increase awareness of the impact repeated and prolonged head injuries have on athletes.  While formal studies have been conducted on CTE’s effects on professional boxers, only recently has the impact of chronic trauma on football players and other athletes begun to receive similar attention.  SLI firmly believes more research is urgently needed to better understand the risks associated with CTE and its related conditions so that future cases can be prevented.  The Institute is committed to providing further insight into this emerging disease and protecting athletes of all ages.
