The Leadership Council
Purpose
The Leadership Council will serve as a critical community champion of the Sports Legacy Institute with a mission of advancing SLI’s life changing work through raising funds for programs and research. Members of the Council will share their gifts in service to our mission by providing SLI with their diverse professional expertise; their connections to local and national resources, colleagues or peers; and their philanthropic support. The Leadership Council has no governing function within the organization and will work directly with the Development Manager.

A commitment to SLI, its mission and goals.
Willingness to:
- Contribute your expertise and insight
- Proactively develop relationships with potential sources of financial support
- Help provide opportunities for prospects to contribute to SLI in a way that will accomplish their personal objectives and aspirations.
- Make an annual contribution to SLI by becoming a Leader ($500) or joining the Leadership Circle ($1,500 or greater)
Responsibilities
- Spread awareness of the mission and work of SLI
- Cultivate prospective Council members through personal and/or professional networks
- Identify potential funding sources, i.e. corporations, foundations, grants, etc. (for follow-up by SLI staff)
- Shape fundraising events as appropriate; consider joining an event committee (Impact Awards, Tom McHale Memorial Fundraiser, Meeting of the Minds Fundraiser, etc.)
- Attend (and recommend attendees) for SLI events
- Attend tri annual calls/meetings
- Keep informed about plans, activities and needs of SLI
- One year renewable membership
Committees
Event Committee
- Responsible for supporting current SLI events
- Join at least one event committee
- Attend and volunteer at as many SLI events as possible
- Solicit high end live and silent auction items
- Recruit attendees and corporate sponsors for events
- Continually look for new opportunities for SLI fundraising events
Outreach Committee
- Responsible for keeping current Leadership Council members engaged and actively growing membership
- Oversee new member communication and introductions
- Help develop organizational materials, documents, and web content about Council events and news
- Maintain contact with the members
- Identify and reach out to prospective members
- Facilitate recruitment initiated by other Council members
Corporate/Foundation Relations Committee
- Identify corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations
- Work closely with SLI staff to solicit support
- Establish long-term partnerships
- Strengthen existing relationships with the corporate and foundation sector
- Assist with the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies, including proposals and marketing materials
