The Benoit Family Fund for Brain Injury Research
On September 5, 2007, the Sports Legacy Institute revealed that a neuropathological examination of the brain of late professional wrestler Chris Benoit showed widespread brain damage indicative of CTE, which may have caused or contributed to his actions that destroyed an entire family in June 2007.
Chris Benoit’s father, Michael Benoit, has established the Benoit Family Fund for Brain Injury Research to provide the funds to the Sports Legacy Institute to further its work, with the hope of preventing future life-altering cases of CTE. These funds will be used so the SLI can continue to perform what ESPN has described as “groundbreaking” research providing “the most significant concussion discoveries” and the “most startling and potentially devastating findings” in concussion research. |
